Maria was a competitive gymnast trained by 2004 Olympic coach Alan Hatch and 2004 two-time Olympic silver medalist Annia Hatch. She is a USA Gymnastics Safety Certified Artistic Gymnastics Coach. She is also certified through USA Gymnastics for Acro levels 1-6 and is a State of Connecticut certified coach.

Maria has been a choreographer of competitive floor routines for 20 years. She is also one of the dance instructors for Flip Fest Gymnastics Camp run by Olympians John Macready and John Roethlisberger. She is also one of the dance instructors for Beam Queen Bootcamp run by Olympian Samantha Peszek.
